Why Soil Test?
Applying fertilizer and lime to your turf are known ways to encourage a thicker, greener, healthier lawn. However, simply guessing at the amounts needed can compromise lawn health and growth. The best way to determine how much fertilizer and lime your turf requires is to perform a soil test.
Through soil testing, elements such as phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, sodium, sulfur, manganese, copper and zinc are chemically removed from the soil and measured for their “plant availability” within the sample. This measurement helps to determine the recommended amount of fertilizer.
Soil testing also measures soil pH, humic matter and exchangeable acidity. Through these analyses, it’s possible to determine whether or not lime is needed and, if so, how much should be applied.
